UNVEILING
Perhaps we are not as different as we would like to believe.?
What if the self-image we defend was never consciously chosen? UNVEILING questions the beliefs, fears and roles we have come to call our own. In Francomo’s reliefs, the unveiling of successive layers becomes an exploration of what has shaped us while remaining beyond our awareness.
Most people believe they know themselves. Their thoughts. Their emotions. Their beliefs. They know who they are. Why they feel the way they do. Why they make the choices they make. At least, that is what we like to think. Unveiling began with doubt. With a question that arises when we stop trusting the first answer. And the second. And the third. What if much of what we call the self was shaped by experiences we no longer remember? What if some of our fears were never truly our own? What if our beliefs are echoes of other people’s stories? What if we spend our entire lives defending an image of ourselves that we never consciously created? Unveiling is not an attempt to discover a new identity. It is an attempt to peel away the layers of the old one. Layers formed from memory. Habit. Expectations. Roles. Fear. The need to belong. The need for control. The need to be someone. Each relief becomes a trace of this process of unveiling. Not of who we are. But of what we have come to accept as ourselves over the years. Perhaps we are not who we think we are. Perhaps we are what remains when all definitions begin to fall apart. Unveiling offers no answers. It leads to no certainty. It does not end the journey. Quite the opposite. It is the moment we first recognise how little we know about ourselves. And understand that awareness does not begin with knowing. It begins with doubt. Perhaps we are not as different as we would like to believe.
