| Portrait of silence, where survival
meant concealing one's voice |

Fermata is a portrait of suspension — a moment when the Native peoples of America had to renounce their nature, their voice, and their wildness in order to survive. Silence became a necessity, and submission the only shield against violence. It is a work of remembrance for those who endured by paying the highest price — the loss of their identity.
